Central Florida doesn't ask permission

A spec sheet only matters if it holds up against what you're actually driving through. Here's what tends to show up on the way to the trailhead, and what on these vehicles is built to handle it.

Green Swamp & reclaimed mine grades

Sugar sand and steep, loose grades

The old phosphate-mine terrain around Alafia River and the Green Swamp wildlife areas throws soft sand and sharp elevation changes at anything without the right tires and diffs. Locking differentials keep both wheels on an axle spinning together instead of bleeding power to the one that's lost grip, and the wider 33- to 37-inch tires give you enough flotation to ride on top of the sand instead of sinking into it.

Summer storm season

Standing water, fast

A single afternoon storm can turn a dry backroad into a water crossing before you know it. That's when a raised air intake and sealed electronics stop being spec-sheet trivia — the intake keeps the engine breathing above the waterline, and the sealed wiring lets you cross without worrying about stalling out or frying a control module halfway through.

Year-round heat & low-speed crawling

Heat soak on technical terrain

Slow rock-crawling and mud-clawing in 95-degree humidity is hard on shocks and cooling systems that aren't built for it. FOX Live Valve dampers read the terrain constantly and adjust on the fly, so they stay composed at speed and still keep a wheel planted when you're crawling, while a properly tuned cooling package keeps the engine and transmission from overheating through those long, slow stretches.

Bronco Badlands

The most trail-capable Bronco outside of Raptor, with front and rear locking differentials, Bilstein position-sensitive shocks, and a front stabilizer-bar disconnect standard, riding on 33-inch tires with 35-inch tires available.

Bronco Sport Badlands

The most capable Bronco Sport, with an Advanced 4x4 system and twin-clutch rear-drive unit that behaves like a locking differential, an off-road-tuned suspension, and available 29-inch all-terrain tires.

Bronco Raptor

Built to soar over rough ground, not just survive it — 37-inch tires, over 13 inches of ground clearance, and HOSS 4.0 suspension with FOX 3.1 Live Valve dampers doing the work.

F-150 Tremor

Off-road capability that still tows and hauls like a proper F-150, with 33-inch all-terrain tires, a locking rear differential, and Trail Control with Trail Turn Assist for tight terrain.

Ranger Raptor

Ford's mid-size desert runner, powered by a twin-turbo V6 shared with Bronco Raptor, with FOX 2.5-inch Live Valve Internal Bypass shocks, front and rear locking differentials, and 33-inch BFGoodrich all-terrain tires.

What these numbers actually mean off-road

You'll see these four figures on every spec sheet. Here's what each one really changes about how a vehicle behaves once the pavement runs out.

Max tire size

37"

Bronco Raptor

Bigger tires lift the whole vehicle higher off the ground, add extra sidewall to soak up hits from rocks and ruts, and lay down a wider footprint that floats over sand instead of digging in. If you spend real time on loose or uneven terrain, tire size is usually the first thing you notice in how confident a vehicle feels.

Ground clearance

13.1"

Bronco Raptor

That's the gap between the underbody and the ground, and it's what keeps a rock, stump, or deep rut from catching the oil pan, transfer case, or exhaust. More clearance means fewer moments where you have to pick a different line just to protect what's underneath you.

Locking differentials

2

Front & rear, electronic

An open differential sends power to whichever wheel has the least resistance, which is usually the one that's already spinning uselessly in sand or mud. Lock both differentials and power gets split evenly across each axle instead, so traction goes to the wheels that still have grip rather than the one that's given up.

Suspension

FOX

Live Valve, Raptor lineup

FOX Live Valve dampers read the terrain dozens of times a second and adjust compression instantly, so the same vehicle can soak up a high-speed hit and still keep a wheel planted crawling over uneven ground a minute later.

Feel it before you buy it, on our own test track

Behind the dealership, we built a dedicated off-road course that mirrors the terrain around Seffner — loose sand, a water crossing, and an articulation section — so you can put a Bronco, Bronco Sport, F-150, or Ranger through its paces right here on the lot, not just around the block.

Sand pit & loose-grade climb

Built to match the sugar sand around Green Swamp, so you can feel how locking differentials and Trail Control change the way a vehicle climbs.

Water crossing lane

A controlled, measured wading lane where you can see for yourself how a raised air intake and sealed electronics hold up.

Articulation ramp

A staggered ramp that lifts one wheel at a time, so you can watch the suspension and locking diffs work in real time.

Mud & rut section

Switch between Mud/Ruts and Sand drive modes back to back on the same stretch of low-traction ground and feel the difference yourself.

The hardware drivers actually ask about

Six pieces of off-road engineering that show up across the lineup, and what each one is doing while you're out there.

Locking differentials

An open differential sends power to whichever wheel has the least resistance. Lock it, and both wheels on that axle get equal power instead.

FOX Live Valve suspension

Sensors read the terrain dozens of times a second and adjust damping on the fly, whether you're at speed or crawling over a root ball.

Skid-plate armor

Steel plating shields the oil pan, transfer case, and fuel tank from rocks and stumps hiding under water or tall grass.

Trail Control & drive modes

Low-speed cruise control for off-road use holds a set pace over rough ground while dedicated modes retune throttle and traction for the terrain you're on.

Tire & wheel packages

Taller, wider off-road tires on beadlock-capable wheels raise ground clearance and let you air down for extra flotation over sand.

Water fording

A raised air intake and sealed electronics push the safe wading depth well past what a standard vehicle can handle.

Off-road service & alignment

Suspension checks, skid-plate inspection, and alignments tuned for lifted, larger-tire setups.

Off-Road Ford Questions, Answered

What's the real difference between the Tremor and Raptor models?

Tremor is the off-road package built onto XLT, Lariat, and King Ranch F-150 trims — a lifted suspension, 33-inch tires, and a locking rear differential. Raptor is its own model, built around FOX Live Valve suspension, wider bodywork, and larger tires for high-speed off-road running, not just low-speed crawling.

Do I need Badlands over a standard Bronco trim?

If sand, mud, or rock trails are a regular part of your driving, the standard locking front and rear differentials, Bilstein shocks, and available 35-inch tires on Badlands make a real difference. If you're mostly on pavement with the occasional light trail, a standard Bronco trim holds up just fine.

Can these vehicles handle Florida's rainy-season water crossings?

Raptor and Badlands-equipped models come with raised air intakes and sealed electronics that push wading depth well past what a standard 4x4 can handle. Ask our team about the specific fording depth for the trim you're considering before you cross anything you can't see the bottom of.

What's a locking differential actually doing for me?

It forces both wheels on an axle to spin at the same speed instead of letting power drain to whichever one has the least grip. On sugar sand or a muddy rut, that's often the difference between driving through and needing a tow.

Are these off-road trims still good daily drivers?

Yes. Tremor and Badlands are tuned to keep reasonable on-road comfort alongside the added capability. Raptor trims trade a little more of that comfort for outright capability, but they're all still built to be driven every day, not trailered to a trailhead.

What maintenance changes with larger off-road tires?

Larger, heavier tires change alignment specs, rotation intervals, and braking distance slightly. Our service team sets up your maintenance schedule around the actual tire and suspension package on your vehicle, not a generic factory default.

Can I test drive an off-road trim before buying?

Absolutely — contact our team to schedule a test drive on any in-stock Bronco Badlands, Bronco Sport Badlands, Bronco Raptor, F-150 Tremor, or Ranger Raptor, including a run on our on-site off-road test track.

What is the off-road test track at Gator Ford?

It's a dedicated course on our lot with a sand climb, a water crossing lane, an articulation ramp, and a mud/rut section, built to mirror the terrain around Seffner so you can feel locking differentials, drive modes, and suspension travel in person before you buy. Runs are by appointment with a product specialist riding along.

Do you carry certified pre-owned off-road Fords?

Our inventory includes new, used, and certified pre-owned options across the off-road lineup. Availability changes regularly, so check current inventory or give our team a call for the latest stock.
